Nintendo brought in 1996 a console on the market known as the Nintendo 64 which used a cartridge system to store the games, this console has now been discontinued for a long time but people still play the games by using Emulation programs on there computers.

The .v64 extension is a copy of the contents of the game cartridge and is used by emulation programs such as project64 to run the games.
