In 1998 an open source programming language was developed by the company CompuPhase, this language was created to be a scripting language that could be embedded. The language was known as Small until 2005 when it was renamed to PAWN from which it gets its file extension .pwn which is used for PAWN source code files.
One of the uses for the PAWN language was for the multi player modification for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas as well in Half Life modifications.
