A MDS file is a Media Descriptor File that can be generated when creating a disc image from a CD or DVD disc.
The format is a binary file with the MEDIA DESCRIPTORS appearing at the beginning of a file. MDS files contain metadata about the original media, specifically the position of the layer breaks or layer breach bit, which is used for the copy protection feature of DVDs.
A .MDS file can then be used along with its related disc image, usually a .MDF file, to re-create the DVD.
