Used to store scanned documents to computer the DjVu format was developed from 1996 to 2001 at AT&T Labs. It is usually used to store documents that contain text, line drawings and photographs through the use of image layer seperation and other technologies to create high quality images that use very little space.
Similar to the PDF format though claiming to create smaller documents DjVu is not as widely accepted as PDF, files that are stored using the DjVu format use the .djvu Extension.
