The program AmiPro was one of the earliest programs to be used for word processing and this was in a DOS environment, later version worked under Windows. Amipro was later purchased by Lotus who were also at a later point in time purchased by IBM.

The extension used by files created by the program use .sam this was a dynamic format which allowed the user to use the whole text area as well as supporting spell checking and grammar correction.
