Windows Installer is used to install, maintain and uninstall software on Microsoft Windows operating systems, these are then contained in packages that are known as msi files.

When Windows installs a program it notes the changes made to the system so that in the event of a failed installation that the installer can remove any changes made and return the system to its previous state this is known a a rollback.

The script that is created so that a rollback is possible is known as RBF or Roll Back File which uses the .rbf file extension. These files are usually found in the config.msi folder.
