The Instant Messaging program from Microsoft called Microsoft Live Messenger uses data files with the extension .id2

These files contain information and metadata that are needed by the program and information for emoticon such as names and keyboard short cuts needed by the program.

Despite being encrypted it is possible to open .id2 files using a text editor, though this is not advised.
