Twain is a standard that is used by devices for acquiring images such as scanners, this was originally started in 1992 as an initiative and is sued for the regulation between software and hardware used for image acquisition. The twain standard is managed by the Twain Organization which is an association of companies such as Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, Kodak and Epson plus others.
Files that act as an interface between the device and computer know as Twain Data Source Files use the .ds file extension.
